THREE WEEKS IN FRANCE May 10, 2008 Brouage & de la Palmyre Zoo

Today we visited Brouage in the morning which is the little village a few kilometers from Thierry’s town. This was the home of Champlain. This stained glass window is inside the local church.

The weather was much nicer today without the constant drizzle we had the first day we drove through this town. Wes and I went opposite directions but both went up on the top of the wall that surrounds the town. A lot of the stones are missing or crumbling from the walls and stairs with vines growing everywhere.

From the top of the wall you can see all of the flat countryside and there are turrets all along the walls and at every corner.

We hung out here for a while and then went back to the Thierry's house.

We all went to the zoo in the afternoon. Everyone had heard of the tiger story but today nothing like that event took place, thank goodness. The zoo was packed as it’s Saturday and a holiday weekend.
A couple of neat things did occur though as we saw a peacock with his feathers up and the black and spotted leopard were sparring. Another funny incident was at the tortoise exhibit. This is springtime and all the kids were very excited to see one giving another a piggyback ride. And this was happening right at the fence so the kids all got a great view. Ah, springtime and love is in the air.

This is Kylian at the zoo.

And Dotty & Wes, two happy tourists in France.

Mia, Delphine and I went back to Brouage before dinner as Delphine wanted to get some more small glass spice bottles. Mia had seen these earlier today and thought Delphine would like them. She liked them so much she wanted all they had to use in her kitchen. I found a pottery store where I bought a hand painted spoon holder so I now have something from France I can use daily in my kitchen.
For dinner Yoyo barbecued duck breast which is quite a delicacy here. Yep, it was delicious. And while the barbecue was still hot he cooked brie for dessert.
