Starting our once in a lifetime trip to Europe. Our daughter, Mia is married to a man from France. So before they move back stateside we made a visit to see them, Thierry's family and visit France.
We left the Portland Airport at 1 p.m. flying on a Lufthansa Airbus. Once on our flight we found we had monitors in the center aisle that besides showing the movies Juno and National Treasure 2 also showed where we were at and other flight information. This was pretty neat as we found out we were at 35,000 ft and at time the temperatures was -76ยบ and we were flying at 544 mph. Those figures just blow me away.
And even more amazing was that because of the speed we were flying we only had about a 2 to 3 hour night. The sun had barely set when after a couple of hours it came up again and it was never really pitch dark. We flew over Canada & Hudson Bay where we could see a lot of snow & ice even though it was spring. We lost 9 hours which made the flight 11 hours. We had a couple of meals which were pretty good and the movies helped to pass the time. Our flight landed in Frankfurt at 8:20 a.m.
